BASIC DIAGNOSES TO DETERMINE
IF YOU HAVE A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM

Some basic transmission problems that should be checked by a transmission specialist (referred shops)

  •  Engine runs but vehicle does not move

  •  Slips: vehicle moves but engine RPM’S raise in different gears

  •  Leaking fluids

  •   Delayed engagement into forward or reverse

  •  Vehicle will only move forward in manual positions (3,2 or L) not in drive

  •  No reverse or no forward

  •  Transmission does not shift (will stay in one gear)

  •  Service transmission or overdrive light flashing

  •  Erratic shifting up or down

None of the above complaints necessarily mean that you need a new or rebuilt transmission. Many times there are minor problems that can be corrected without transmission replacement.
